Well we had a fabulous day for the event with warm weather and a cross tail wind for the riders who took part.  There was a good mix of novice riders both young and old and a few more experienced time trialists to show us  just how fast you really can go.  The final approved results are shown below.

Thanks to our sponsor La Patisserie who supplied the catering on the day, our President Reg Pearce for the generous cash prizes, Cheadle Cycles for the donation of a shop voucher prize and Stafford RC for the additional prizes.  Well done to all the riders who took part, the times they produced and the friendly atmosphere in the HQ afterwards seem to suggest that everyone had had a great day and hopefully this will encourage you to all get out on your bikes a little more.  Dates of other TT events hosted by Stafford RC are shown below and on our Events page above.

Come & Give it a Go – 20th July 2014

Sunday 20th July, start time 2pm Woodseaves, Stafford.

Stafford Road Club is again hosting a Come & Give It A Go Time Trials aimed at encouraging new as well more experienced riders into the sport of cycling and Time Trialing.  The course runs between Woodseaves and Great Bridgeford and is 7.9km or 5 miles long and is slightly down hill!

Like the TTs at the Tour De France, riders will set off at 1 minute intervals with time keepers at the start and finish. But do not worry if you are not a member of a cycling club or have never ridden a time trial before, both these event are open to all and can be ridden on any style of bike (mountain, road or hybrid); these events are geared to cater for complete novices to more experienced riders.

So if you want to follow in the footsteps of Chris Froome (but not fall off!) or Laura Trott this where it all starts. Entry is on the day (£3 per rider) but as these events have in the past proved to be very popular we are taking provisional bookings from anyone who is interested in riding and this helps the organisers know how many riders to cater for.

Signing on will be from 12.30pm in the HQ which is in Great Bridgeford Village Hall. The first rider starts at 2pm but please allow up to 30 minutes to ride from the HQ to the start. The minimum age for entrants is 12 and any rider under the age of 18 must bring with them a signed parental consent form. Refreshments will be available before and after the event in the HQ.  Prizes will be awarded in the HQ after the event and these have been donated by Stafford RC, Cheadle Cycles and Stafford RC president Reg Pearce.

Last nights time trial on the hilly 9.2mile loop which starts and finishes in Penkridge produced some excellent times. The most impressive performance was Martin Moore who set a new club course record and knocked 5 seconds of Dave Gill’s time finishing in 20:39. Martin’s 2014 season has produced some excellent rides and it looks like there is still a lot more to come from the young rider.

The biggest individual gains on the night were made by Phil Hogan and Paul Taylor who took 61 seconds off their old course pb’s and looks like they are both finding some mid season form. In the women’s event Susan Semple was the fastest on the night and took 13 seconds off her old course pb and missed the club course record (held by Annis Moore) by just 3 seconds.

6 riders rode the course for the first time Sam Jackson (SRC), Dan Arnold (Walsall RCC), Mark Arnold (Walsall RCC), Thomas Knipe (Wolverhampton WCC), Dave Pemberton (Wolverhampton RCC), Dan Ward (Private Trial) and it will be interesting to see over the next 2 weeks what each of them can do on this course. It’s been another successful week for the Stafford RC riders competing in a number of events across the region

Thursday 6 June – Newcastle Track Dave Smith managed 1st in the team sprint and 2nd overall in the 10 mile scratch race.

Saturday 7 June – Sue Smith won the Vets competition in the K33/10d TT event based on the fastest men and women on Vets Standard

Tuesday 10 June – TLI Road Races saw the usual suspects competing but the star this week on the night was Andy Prince who took 3rd on the testing Great Budworth course. He thought he had the first win of the season only for Steven Fidler to come past like a train.

Wednesday 11 June – SRC 25 mile TT was won by Martin Moore, 2nd Kevin Breeze and 3rd Steve Houghland.  A new course record set on the night by James Ratcliffe (Fred’s Williams Cycles) in a time of 52.14 !

Thursday 12 June- Newcastle Track Dave Smith rode but no results this week

Saturday 14 June- West Midland Womens Series round 3.  Stafford RC women’s squad showed that they had not lost their form and have won the Team Prize for the 3rd consecutive time based on Sue Smith, Susan Semple and Annis Moore’s times.  April Lewis and Louise Notley also rode and Louise had her best ride of the season setting a new course and distance pb.   Martin & Matt Moore, Melvyn Lewis and Alastair Semple also rode as part of the open event but sadly no pb’s for the men but more valuable points in the West midlands rankings. Melvyn had the best ride and was just 8 seconds off his course pb, possibly due to his new wheel cover making my rear wheel into a disc

Sunday 15 June  – An early start for the testers on Sunday who rode the Mercia open 25 mile TT on the K16/25 near Kings Bromley. April and Melvyn Lewis both had excellent rides with April knocking 42 sec off her course pb and missing her distance pb by just 2 seconds! Melvyn set an new distance pb of 1:03:39 and knocked 1min 31 sec off his course pb., Susan & Alastair Semple also represented Stafford RC on the day and Susan beat her course pb by just over 1 min.

The road racers head north to Sunny Bolt for a TLI event at Oulton Park. Big fields on the day and wide track made it a hairy race with some big crashes. Luckly our lads kept it up right but missed out on any placings.

Tuesday 17 June – Ben Lain, Gavin Henthorne, Robert Faulkner, John Charter, Nick Howe and Ade Robinson all took part in the TLI evening race. A fast race with plenty of strong rides by our riders but no top 10 finishers this week. Sad to here that once through the finish a rider changed his line and brought down a few riders including John Charter who shredded his new bib shorts on their first race outing. Tough luck! Alastair Semple went off looking for a short 10 mile TT this week and rode in the Mercia 10 mile club TT and took 3rd place.

So great to see the club been represented in so many events across the region.
