RTTC National Time Trial Series – 6 April 2014 – Event Details

Stafford Road Club has been chosen to host the 2nd of 6 National Time Trial Series events which has attracted a top field of riders.  In the women’s event, Olympic gold medallist and British National Champion Joanna Rowsell (Wigglehonda Pro Team) leads the field.   In the men’s event Matt Bottrill (Drag2Racing) heads the men’s field. Matt beat Ben Swift (Sky Pro Team) to take silver medal place in last year’s National Championship, holds 50 National Championships, and is set to become Britain’s best ever domestic Time Trialist.

Here is a copy of the Start Sheet that shows a full list of riders participating and event details.

The event takes place on the Sporting Course that starts just north of Stafford in Weston village, map below.  Riders will then head east along the A51 before turning north over Blithfield reservoir to Uttoxter and then south again along the A518 back to Weston.  Riders will climb 422m as they travel around the 22 mile course making this a very tough event indeed.  The cyclists have been entered into 5 separate categories with the Paracyclists going first, followed by the Veterans (over 40yrs),  Women’s,  Juniors (18 and under) and finally the Men’s and Espoirs (19 to 23yrs).

The first ride start time is 11:01 and riders will set off at 1min intervals with the top riders in each category being set off 2min apart.   We hope that there will be a good turnout of local cyclists and enthusiasts who come to see Britain’s top riders warming up at the HQ in Weston Village Hall and to cheer the riders along the course.  The National Series awards over £1,200 of prizes to the winners and awards £500 at this event alone.  The prize presentation is scheduled to begin at 14:10 in the HQ.

Thanks to our helpers Sue Alastair Christine and the promoter Paul. I can’t say that they had it as bad as you riders did but they suffered from the cold especially Sue. Thanks

Great rides by April and Roger too who despite the poor conditions improved on their previous weeks times.  Nice to welcome Nina, Richard, Jayne and Nick along too.  Hopefully we will see you at a few more of our rides this season.

Early indications show the weather for next Sundays 50 look a little more settled.  See you all then

2014 Season starts this week!

On Sunday 9th March SRC is hosting it’s first time trial for the 2014 season that is part of this years Championships.

Full details of this and all the other club competitions can be found on our events page.

The first of the local road races takes place at Darley Moor and our Go-Ride events for juniors which began last Saturday will take place at Rowley Park each Saturday morning now until October.  Details of our Go-Ride events can be found via the events link at the top of this web page.

Matthew and Martin Moore have already started their season in the Open Events calender, competing in a 2-up 25 mile time trial last Saturday where they took 4th place against a full field of 60 teams.  Well done and a brilliant start to your season.

Top Riders come to Stafford

This year Stafford Road Club are hosting one of the prestigious RTTC National Time Trial Series events on Sunday 6th April.  There will be four separate events: – Men/Espoirs; Women/Veterans; Juniors and Disability held on the day.

This series attracts the country’s fastest riders.  Last year’s Men’s category winner was Matt Bottrill.  You may remember Matt split Giro time trial winner Alex Dowsett and Team Sky’s Ben Swift on the podium of the National Time Trial Championship last year, earning him respect from every bike racer in the country.  Rebecca Slack took the women’s title adding to her two National 100 wins and podium finishes in the National 10, 25 and 50.

Our reputation for running excellent events is one of the reasons we were chosen as an event host.  In order to make this event a success I need your help.  If you would like to volunteer as a marshal and also have a fantastic opportunity to see and hopefully meet some of Britain’s fastest time trialists then let me know.

I’ll need 18 people to help me to host this event which will take place from Weston Village hall.  So please let me know if you are available from 10.30 to approximately 2.00pm.

Training – through and off

well its getting to that time of year when those who are planning to race this year are looking to put a bit of speed into their legs

Well here is a useful little video that just goes to show that technique is just as important, if not more, than stamping on the pedals

New Years Day Time Trial

We would like to invite you along to our New Years Day Time Trial on the super fast K7/5 course.  What better way to start the New Year off than a nice spin out on the bike : ) This is a fancy dress event (optional) and many riders make this a more comical day out which will be followed by drinks and refreshments back at Graham’s house who lives locally.

First rider is off at 11:00am so please arrive early to allow time to sign on and get numbered up.  We have had approx 50 riders take part each years of all abilities and dress sense !

Here is a LINK to our course map for anyone who needs details.  Signing on takes place at the start which is at Pottal Pool roundabout on the A34, £2/rider.  This event is open to all and you do not have to be affiliated to any club or cycling organisation, just turn up and sign on.

Look forward to seeing you all on New Years Day, if not to ride, to cheer riders on.

What is he doing to get leg muscles like THAT !

Just seem some photo;s of Fabian Cancellara at the Trek factory getting fitted out for next seasons bike and spotted this one of him with his coach pointing at his leg muscles.

Fabian at Trek

When you zoom in on his this he has three muscles shaped like droplets of water.   What is he doing to get legs with muscles that shape?

Fabian leg at Trek

but one thing is for certain he is looking lean and will hopefully break the hour record early next year (2014) as well as dominating some of the spring classic.

Let hope 2014 turns out to be his best yet as he is one of the true greats : )

Hill Climb Championship 2013

Congratulations to Matt Bonehill who successfully defended his title last weekend.

Thanks to Paul Middleborough for sending in these great photos taken on the day and to Don and Alex for timekeeping and recording

I see JB is still having to hang onto cars to get up the last steep section : )

SRC 50 mile TT on the 8 Sept 2013

Here are a few shots I took on the day of riders taking part in the 50 mile club TT and supporters who turned out to cheer Matt Bonehill on when he set out to smash the club and course record.   He did this in a time of 1:53:28 beating his own club record set the week before by 2 mins 26 seconds and the course record set by Scot Westwood in 2009 by 1 min 41 seconds
