Stafford Road Club is again hosting its annual Come and Give it a GO 5 mile Time Trial event aimed at encouraging new riders into the sport of cycling.

Do not worry if you are not a member of a club or have never ridden a time trial before, this day is geared to cater for the complete novice as well as more experienced riders.

For some it’s an opportunity to see just what it takes to ride against the clock over a given distance and see how you too match up against the professionals riding in this year Tour de France.

Entry is on the day and costs £3/rider (£2 of your entry fee has to be paid out to the CTT as levies) . Prizes will also be awarded on the day to some of the fastest novice riders.  Signing on will be from 9:00am in the HQ (Great Bridgeford Village Hall, ST18 9PR).   Full details can be found below

We hope to see you there on the day for another friendly event designed for cyclists of all abilities.  Please spread the word and encourage your friends and neighbours to come and give it a go

K48/10 & K48/23 Open events results

Stafford RC and Walsall RC recently ran a weekend of Open TT’s on our local course as part of the West Midland VTTA and BDCA series.

 

Some great rides by our Stafford RC riders Susan Semple, April Lewis, Louise Notely, Christine Bresson,  Martin Tolley and Alastair Semple on the Saturday.  Then Roger Morris and Paul Taylor took part in Sunday hill 23 mile event.  Paul did a superb ride knocking about 3 min off his own course personal best.

 

Thank must go out to Susan Semple for organising Sundays event and to Louise Notley, April Lewis, Christine Bresson, Linda Morris, Mark Rickards, James Haddon , Melvyn Lewis, Don Picken and Alastair Semple for helping to host the event on the day.  Stafford RC has had some excellent feedback from riders complementing the club on how well marshalled and organised the whole day was.

 

Thanks also to the Walsall members who were involved in hosting Saturday event.

Stafford RC K7/9 TT results 20th May 2015

Another great turn out tonight with 34 riders tackling the tough little 9.2 mile course from Penkridge. Conditions were reasonable but not super fast but despite this we had James Ratcliffe (Fred’s) turn up and smash the old course record set in 2013 by Scott Westwood (Walsall RC). James finished in a time of 19:37 knocking 10 seconds off the old record and taking over a minute out of second placed rider on the night Joe Costello (Walsall RCC). Fabulous ride James !
April Lewis and Alastair Semple were the fastest Stafford RC riders on the night. Thank to Melvyn (starter), Stuart (pusher off) Svien and Don (timekeepers) and Phil (recorder).

Stafford RC 2015 club events have got off to a brilliant start with 325 rider participating in our first 10 events.

It’s an incredible start to the season with high numbers of Stafford RC riding in these events. Thanks to the 35 Stafford RC members and friends without whom we could not have them.

In the next month we have 2 more key events coming up which we are still short of volunteers : o

A week on Sunday (24 May) we host the BDCA 23 mile TT. It starts at 11am (HQ Weston village hall) and with a field of 39 riders setting off at 1 min intervals the marshals will only be out on the course for about 45 min.

Then on Sunday 14 June we are hosting the Charlie Betteley Memorial Road Race in memory of our dear friend and club member Charlie Betteley who was crowned world road race championship and national grass track championship in his fabulous career. Thanks to the 16 volunteers we have already but we still need at least another 10 helpers for this event. On the day we will need 7 cars to act as escort vehicles so if you want to get a close up view of the race action please mention you are happy to drive when you confirm your availability ( petrol expenses paid).

So can all of our SRC club members who have not yet made themselves available this year to help out at one of our club events please take a look at our volunteers/events list and drop Robert an email at vice chairman@staffordrc.org who manages the volunteers list so he can add your details.

With Stafford RC membership now at over 180 fully paid up members we should not be struggling to host these events, but yet we still seem to be?

So please get in touch regarding these 2 key events and the list of other dates where volunteers are still needed and I am sure you will enjoy helping putting something back into the club we are all proud to be a part of.
