2 of the oldest Stafford RC records fall

At the National 15mile Vets Time Trial Championships on Sunday (30 April) Alastair Semple @staffordrc set a new club record in some tough racing conditions.

The current senior mens record was set back in 1961 by Rupert Riley and the Vets record in 1973 by Reg Pearce, but on Sunday Alastair Semple knocked 7 mins of Reg’s and 4 mins off Rupert’s records finishing in a time of 33:03.  His average speed on the flat ‘out and back’ course showed clearly the force of the wind on the day.  Alastair averaged 23.8mph out and 33.3mph back from the turn. “It was like riding through treacle in a couple of spots on the way out where the wind almost stopped you, but from the turn if was super fast, just a shame I was so tired from the outward leg to enjoy it fully”

This is the first new StaffordRC club record to be set this year but hopefully not the last.  A full list of current and past records can be found on the SRC website as a sub folder of the Time Trial page LINK or Events Records LINK
