Club Time Trial Competitions

Each year Stafford Road Club run numerous time trial competitions as listed below.  For the 2020 season we will be hosting the series in conjunction with Walsall RCC, Brereton Wheelers and TEAN.  Points will be awarded at all of the events regardless of which of the clubs is hosting the event.  To be eligible for any of the SRC competitions you must be a first claim member of the club and you must have volunteered for at least two events during the season.

How Points Are Awarded

For the 3 main championships above, points are awarded to riders at each counting event.  For Vets it is the single best result, and the BAR is best results in each of the 3 distances.

Mens/Women

This competition is open to all SRC members irrespective of age.
Points are awarded at each counting event based on their time for the event.
Every club event from March to the end of September counts, except open events run by the club, hill climbs, or the K7/5W “Come and Try It” events. Points are scored by every rider who completes as a solo time trialist.

Points are based on placing in the overall field of riders by time position of all riders. The first placed rider receives 50 points. The remaining riders score points in proportion to the number of riders that they have beaten.

The formula for calculating your points score is:

((Number of people you beat or equal + 1) ÷ (number of finishers)) x 50

Your best 20 points scored from the counting events are added to give your ranking points total.

Handicap

The handicap competition rewards the rider who has made the best improvement from last season and during this season.  Each rider’s handicap for an event is based on the average of their best two times on that course over the current and previous season in relation to the course record. If a rider has not ridden the course before, the TT Sec. will calculate a handicap for that event. Their actual time on the first event will be used for handicapping their second event on the course. Points are scored based on their handicap position in all counting events.

Example:

Event – K7/5 on 21st August 2018

My previous best 2 times (from this season and last season):
11:38 – 10/04/2018
11:21 – 14/08/2018

So the average of these two times is 11:30 (690 seconds)

The course record at the time of the event was 9:09 (549 seconds)

So my delta to the course record is 141 seconds (690 – 549)

Now, I finished this event with a time of 11:03 (663 seconds)

So my handicap time for this event is 522 seconds (663 – 141)
Or converted to minutes and seconds 8:42

Vets

The Vets competition  is only available for riders over 40 since we don’t have any data for under 40’s.

The % value given is the percentage of an elite athlete of your age and sex riding the same course

The age, sex and distance adjustments use the VTTA data.
The course adjustment is done by statistical analysis of riders riding the course. This work is ongoing and will improve as more riders ride the course.
